Equipment

  • Measuring cup
  • Large mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Vegetable oil
  • 1 1/4 cups Granulated sugar
  • 4 cups Distilled white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons Sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons Poppy seeds
  • 1 tablespoon Onion juice or finely grated onion
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon Honey
  • 2 teaspoons Ground mustard

Instructions

  • Before you start, gather all your ingredients. Lay them out on your countertop to ensure you have everything you need. This will make the process smooth and enjoyable.
  • Using a measuring cup, carefully measure out the vegetable oil and set it aside. Next, measure the granulated sugar, distilled white vinegar, sea salt, and honey. Precision counts in cooking, so make sure your measurements are spot on.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the vegetable oil and granulated sugar. Whisk them together until the sugar has dissolved. This may take a minute or two. Don’t skip this step; it creates a smooth base for your dressing.
  • Next, whisk in the distilled white vinegar and the onion juice or grated onion. The vinegar adds that essential tang, while the onion brings depth. Keep whisking until the mixture is well-blended and creamy.
  • Slowly fold in the sea salt, turmeric, ground mustard, and poppy seeds. Each of these ingredients contributes something special to the dressing. The mustard adds a touch of spice, while the turmeric enhances the color.
  • Give the dressing one last whisk to ensure everything is incorporated. Taste test! Adjust any ingredients as necessary—if you like it sweeter, add a bit more honey or sugar.
  • Place the dressing in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully. If you can wait longer, even better!

Notes

  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Fresh onion will impart better flavor than pre-grated options.
  • Chill Before Serving: Chilling allows flavors to blend, enhancing the taste.
  • Taste Test: Always taste your dressing before serving to adjust sweetness or acidity.
  • Storage is Key: Store in an airtight container to keep it fresh longer.
  • Shake Well Before Use: The ingredients may separate, so give it a good shake before serving.
